West Bengal is expected to witness a rise in temperature along with continued thunderstorms and unseasonal rainfall over the next few days, according to the Alipore Meteorological Department. The department has forecasted that temperatures in several districts could increase by two to four degrees Celsius in the coming four days.
On Saturday, Kolkata and surrounding districts including Howrah and Hooghly are likely to experience light rain and thunderstorm activity. The weather is expected to remain dry until Tuesday, after which rainfall may resume from Wednesday onwards. Southern districts of Bengal are predicted to receive light to moderate rain almost daily during this period.
The monsoon has arrived earlier than usual in North Bengal. Districts such as Darjeeling, Jalpaiguri, Alipurduar, Kalimpong, and Cooch Behar may experience continuous thunderstorms with rain from Saturday through next Thursday. Meanwhile, Malda, Uttar Dinajpur, and Dakshin Dinajpur districts are expected to receive comparatively lesser rainfall.
Temperature readings recorded recently show a minimum of 26.2 degrees Celsius in Kolkata on Friday, which was one degree below the normal average. The maximum temperature recorded on Thursday was 33.6 degrees Celsius, also one degree below normal. However, starting Saturday, temperatures are expected to rise again.
The meteorological department has not issued any special weather warnings so far. It has advised the public to stay alert to changing weather conditions and to take necessary precautions as the situation evolves. No significant temperature change is expected in the next 24 hours, but a gradual increase is anticipated over the following four days.
